The Jaguar E-type is undoubtedly one of the most iconic cars that has ever been made. It is regularly appreciated, thanks to its styling elements, elegant design, and undeniable sense of uber-cool machine. E-Type is a symbol of style and performance that people started to witness from the sixties. At present, it has become one of the most prized and desired classic cars on the market. That’s relevant given the amount of money people are ready to pay for them in auction events. Enzo Ferrari was so much interested with the car that he described it as ‘The most beautiful car ever made’. Such a nice compliment coming from someone such Enzo is a feat in itself, which means you cannot underestimate the unique look of the machine. This is indeed a very special car but do you know its history and what makes it so special? In the next part of the blog post, we are going to discuss about the history of this stunning masterpiece so that you know it better.
Going back to its introduction, the Jaguar E-Type first made its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in the year 1961. The car was made by the defunct racing department of the company, shifting from their massive success at Le Mans all throughout the 50s to create a road-going sports vehicle based on D-Type construction. The E-type got widespread acclaim, and it so happened that the founder of Jaguar (Sir William Lyons), ordered a second car for an overnight delivery to allow for more testing.
It was an overnight success story, and the response was immediate; down to its excellent design and great performance. There were three different variations created across the lifetime of the E-Type. The Series 1 was equipped with a 3.8 Litre engine (from the D-Type), Series 2 came out with a slightly more modified front headlights to take out the coverings of glass, and Series 3 was equipped with a massive 5.3 Litre 12-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine. More than 70,000 E-Types were sold in its fifteen-year production lifespan between the year 1961 and 1975. This made it one of the most successful sports coupes in the planet.
